What is Magen David Adom?
The name Magen David Adom translates to “red shield” or “red Star of David.” It is Israel’s emergency medical service and its national blood bank. The MDA’s blood service division is currently supplying 100% of the blood needed by the IDF and is distributing blood units to all of Israel’s hospitals, where wounded civilians are being treated.
Magen David Adom was officially recognized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) as the National Aid Society of the State of Israel.
MDA has a designated medical emergency phone number in Israel. ‘MDA 101’ becomes the auxiliary arm of the Israel Defense Forces during times of war.
As of today, MDA is operating at full capacity, using all available vehicles, equipment, staff, and volunteers, at an additional daily cost of between 1,000,000-2,000,000 ILS – above and beyond normal operating budget. Every dollar donated to MDA is utilized to assure that MDA can continue to provide crucial assistance to those in need.
